This book shows that careful use of typography, pictures and graphics, compelling headlines and skilful handling of text, coupled with good page planning all help to give character, balance and style to a newspaper and make it attractive to the reader. Modern editing and production techniques are examined in the light of the computerized systems which are now in use. It gives a detailed account of what happens between the writing of news stories and their eventual appearance in print. It defines the varied techniques of copy-tasting, of editing news stories and features, of writing headlines, using typography to advantage, and covers word use and structure.
