Following the publication of the fourth edition of the Compendium of International Standards for Elections last August, EODS is pleased to announce that the French and Spanish translations are now available on our website. The Compendium is an useful reference on the election-related human rights instruments that serve as the basis for the assessment of elections.
These two translations of the Compendium, together with the Handbook for EU Election Observation, are an essential methodological tool for EU observation mission members in French and Spanish speaking countries where EOMs currently operate. We hope they are also useful to other stakeholders including election officials, political parties and civil society.
This new edition of the Compendium provides a revised overview of international standards, with new sections on human rights systems and election-related jurisprudence. It also includes updated information on ratification status for treaties and several new election-related instruments, as well as an extensive list of references for further reading.
